PRESENT SITUATION OF OPTOMETRIST IN INDIA

What is Optometry??
Optometry is a health care profession concerned with eyes and related structures, as well as vision, visual systems, and vision information processing in humans.
Its primary Eye Care profession ,you can serve your patient by this way…………..
1.Vision care treatment.
2.Contact lens related detail management
3.squient & Low visual aid management
& they can also treat minor disease

 

Education system  in india

Being an optometrist I am giving our present situation in our country…..I think in most of the education field it will may applicable…
If want to your optometry Degree from reputed university in India then some point needed…
1. You have to pass out H.S with minimum marks 55% in science stream,
2. Then u have to appear competitive examination like CET (common entrance test)
3.then pay college (private) fees near about 2.5lakh
Then you will get chance to read optometry………………

Employment & less value problem

As I have already told you that Optometrist are primary eye care profession. 

for Secondary Treatment they may refer patient to Ophthalmologist(Who can take care almost 100% of a patient eyes in medicine & surgical part)
BUT FOR OPTOMETRIST THEY CAN ALSO TAKE CARE OF ALMOST 100% VISION RELATED PROBLEM ……..
So For any eye problem 1st Optometrist then any complicated problem optometrist will refer this case to their superior Ophthalmologist…this is the way, developed & developing countries are following.
Now come & focus on some problem issue………
1.BUT THE BAD THING IS THAT OPTOMETRIST DON’T HAVE PRACTICE REGISTRATION NUMBER IN OUR COUNTRY !!!!
Colleges & universities are saying that an bachelor optometrist can practice independently in our country….why they are saying this?? Ans----for business only.
2.Avg salary in reputed eye hospital out of W.B 12000/-month within W.B 6000/- month only
which is near about a driver salary…..what r u feeling now?? Sock! But Its true.
3.there is no such as govt. post for bachelor degree holder…you have to apply for place of diploma holders. Govt. post present in name of ophthalmic assistant only salary…avg 9000/-.

Just think one primary school teacher getting 10000/-month…only after passing 10th or 12th std. & a eye care professional………ha ha ha!!!
Now population of INDIA almost 135cr (2010) & qualified optometrist in India almost 8500.so really optometrist are needed for our developing country, is’n it?..YES NEEDED…BUT WHO ARE LISTING TO US? WHO R LISTING TO NEW GENERATION & NEW FIELD?? ANS----NOBODY.
GOVT. OR OPPONENT PARTY LOOKING FOR VOTE ONLY.

Some good news are there now national & multinational optical retail chain looking for optometrist for proper educated sales person. No doubt salary is good avg 13000/-m ….but it is misuse of proper man power.
SO MY REQUEST TO GOVT. & MCI(MEDICAL COUNCIL OF INDIA)PLEASE LOOK AFTER THIS MATTER & PLEASE CONTROL PROPER SYLLABUS & EDUCATION SYSTEM FOR OPTOMETRY
